Our Story
I started EXERT simply because I was sick of uncomfortable work shorts. Since I started in the construction industry I have been looking for 'The ones'. I tried every brand and every style, with no luck.
I'm a massive nerd with anything tool or workwear related. I try them all, then choose the best. DM me if you've got any questions regarding a potential tool purchase and I'll probably have an opinion on it hahah.
I am a carpenter and most of my mates and my environment is revolved around tradies. Everyone I speak to has the same comment. "I haven't found my forever work shorts yet." Whenever someone rocks up to site with new shorts, there's always the "They're alright, but they'd be better if X,Y and Z was different."
The shorts on the market are either stiff 100% drill cotton with no give or they're made of lightweight, thin as paper sport short material. No give means they'll rip when you try and move and the thin lightweight stuff tears when you brush passed a stud. It got me thinking, "who the fuck is designing these things?" It reminded me lots of the engineers and architects that draw up something that works on paper, but doesn't on site!
Then there's all the other pieces of clothing worn on site, usually an old shitty jumper or some daggy old hats that we got for free from the hardware store. We're in our work clothes for the majority of our waking life, the least we can do is wear some comfy, durable and cool clothing!
As someone who is hardly computer literate, I have had help form a bunch of awesome people to help me design and create a great pair of shorts and some other really cool workwear pieces.
It's taken me a fucking long time to get to this stage. I'm the king of under estimating, both on site and with the brand. I'm a perfectionist onsite and the same goes for vetting the products I have created for you guys! Nothing's premature, everything is tried and tested and ready to be worn.
I have, along with some awesome mates, put the prototypes to the test! There have been many different iterations. Trying to get the right clothes that will tick the boxes. Functional, while comfortable and of course durable. There have been many fails and 'lets get back to the drawing board' moments. Us tradies are a resilient bunch. Shit goes wrong nearly every day, but we persevere and overcome. Figure out a way to keep the job rolling, it's part of the gig.
The feedback from pieces we've created so far is awesome. I have very much oriented how each piece is made, based on feedback from friends and people in the industry that have worn my samples.
The overwhelming response is that the work shorts we've created have hit the nail on the head. I sure as hell think they'll be your last pair of work shorts you'll try. I'm very excited to show everyone what We've cooked up! Drop 2 babyyy
